A bout of lower back pain is a pretty common occurrence. You notice yourself feeling achy and sore. Maybe you
apply some heat or cold or take a few pain pills. You lie down for a while or sit in a chair and apply pressure.
For some it only happens once in a lifetime and they get quick relief and go on about their business.
However, that might not be what you're experiencing, and you wonder what to do next. For others, and perhaps for
you, it's a recurring problem. What's worse, the pain is so bad and happens so continuously that it's a really
debilitating problem for their lives.
They can't get on with their work and their relationships suffer because they're so unhappy because of the pain.
This is a situation that needs to be addressed quickly so that you can feel better and resume your activities. If
you suffer from debilitating lower back pain, the best thing you can do as a first step is get yourself to your
doctor. A diagnosis is the only way you can begin to heal, and it has to be a proper diagnosis.
But it has to be the right diagnosis that's been given some thought. Don't let your doctor just write a
prescription for something that makes you feel better for a short while. You want to understand why the problem
keeps happening without just covering up the symptoms.
Then you can truly begin to be treated and to heal. There can be many reasons why you have lower back pain, and
that's why the proper diagnosis is so important. You may have that kind of ache because of a muscle that's been
pulled along the spine. That requires one type of treatment.
These are handled rather simply with exercises and stretches for the back and perhaps some muscle relaxing
medications. Often results can be quick and lasting for this type of problem. However, there could be other reasons
why you're ailing, and they'll require other types of treatments.
There could have been nerve damage along the spine, or perhaps there are issues with how the spine itself has been
formed, such as with scoliosis. In rare cases, there are tumors that have grown in areas that press upon the spine,
and these need to be checked to ensure that they're benign.
All of these problems can be taken care of, but over some time. So make sure you're pursuing all roads when you
have persistent lower back pain that impedes your life. Talk to your doctor.
Let him or her examine you. Go for the battery of tests that may be ordered. The faster you get to the root of the
problem of your lower back pain, the faster you'll feel relief and will be able to proceed with your life. Life can
feel good again once you begin addressing the real problems of lower back pain.
