One common problem people have is lower back injuries. It can take 2 to 3 months for the pain to subside after the original injury. Sometimes the pain last a short period of time to 6 months or more for a small amount of people. Once you have had a back injury, the pain could come back again and again.

There are different reasons people can have lower back pain. Lower back injuries tend to occur when people are lifting heavy objects or other activities that use the back muscles in different way then you are used to.

The muscles can get strained , sprained, the joints can be stressed, or you can slip a disk in the lower back. When the ligaments, tendons, and/ muscles of the lower back are stretched, it causes lumbar strain. This occurs from misuse, overuse or trauma to the lower back.

The stretching causes tiny tears in these tissues and gives you pain. The pain usually only last a few days to weeks, but can cause chronic pain lasting more then 3 months. Repeated motion or vibration or even a sudden heavy stain or increased pressure can cause a herniated disc.

Herniated discs can be common for athletes, heave machine users, or weight lifters. As you age, the joints start to degenerate and can cause pain. The joints in the spine can be affected or hip joints, which would cause you pain while walking and lead to back pain from adjusting how you walk.

What are the Symptoms of lower back pain? Besides pain in the lower back, there are other symptoms that might lead to surgery. These symptom indicate a serious medical condition: loss of bladder and bowel control or increasing weakness in the legs. How is low back pain diagnosed?

Your doctor is going to look at your medical history and physical exam to find any reasons for the pain. The doctor will want to know when the pain started, what happened, where the pain is, how strong the pain is, how long the pain lasts, and if the pain prevents you from any actions.

He will also want to if you have had lower back pain in the past and if you have any health conditions that might increase the chanced of lower back pain. The doctor will examine your back, reflexes and other neurologic tests to determine why you have the pain and what should be done to treat it.

Other tests might need to be done to find out if there are other causes to the pain like a tumor. What can be done to treat lower back pain? Exercise is the best treatment for lower back pain.

Continuing to use the muscle and moving around will strengthen the muscles and keep them loose. To begin with the pain might be too much to continue normal activities, but if you don't use the back muscles, they will get weak and just make the pain worse. Start small and build up to more and more exercise every day. Don't do anything that will make the pain worse, but exercising everyday will eventually make the pain decrease and strengthen the back muscles.
